Pittsburgh Pregnancy Chiropractors

Some people find that chiropractic care can help ease some of the aches and pains of pregnancy.

Many parents tell us that chiropractic care was a huge relief when they were experiencing pain or discomfort, and that it was an important part of their wellness during pregnancy. While it definitely isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, chiropractic care can be a good option to look into if you want more ways to support your body during all these changes.

Chiropractic care is also said to help the body prepare for birth. The thought is that by helping parents remain in alignment, their babies have the best chance of being in an optimal position for labor.

If you’re ready to get started, we recommend looking for a chiropractor trained or certified in the Webster technique.

Chiropractors are trained in the safety of treating pregnant people during their schooling, but there is also advanced training available for those who want to specialize in pregnancy care.

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis developed to help people have easier pregnancies and births. In addition to helping address things like low back pain or sciatica that can show up in pregnancy, the Webster Technique also focuses on balancing the pelvic muscles and ligaments. This type of balancing work can help facilitate a smoother labor process, which is why we so highly recommend that our clients work with a Webster trained/certified chiropractor for this specific type of care.

Sometimes parents have existing relationships with a chiropractor who they prefer to see during pregnancy, even if that person is not Webster certified. They will likely still get some benefits from that care, but they may be missing the specific components that can help facilitate pelvic balancing—and THAT is the part of pregnancy-specific chiropractic care that has real potential to impact the birth process.

People who are planning to give birth at home or at a birth center can consider chiropractic care as another tool during pregnancy to help support their birth plan. A lot of people who are planning a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) also find chiropractic care to be supportive.

What does it mean if a chiropractor is Webster trained?

Chiropractors who train/certify through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) take an additional training program beyond chiropractic school. This certification (comprised of nearly 20 courses!) signals their commitment and dedication to serving pregnant and postpartum people with the highest level of education available in this specialty.

Webster trained chiropractors also have advanced training in treating babies. Adjustments for little ones are not like for adults - there is no neck cracking involved! These are very gentle interactions to help babies become more comfortable and mobile if they’re experiencing tension. This is especially common if they were born in a difficult position, if the pushing phase was very short or very long, or if they spent time in the NICU.

How we made this list

We searched the ICPA site for perinatal chiropractors in Pittsburgh to make life a little easier for you. We’ve also included some practitioners we know who treat pregnancy/postpartum folks but aren’t listed in the ICPA directory. (It’s a membership-based directory, and some chiropractors choose not to pay the membership fee required in order to be listed.)

This is not a comprehensive list. If you want to find someone near you who isn’t on this list, you can search the ICPA website for more practitioners.

Notes:

  • We last updated this list in October 2024. We will do our best to keep this list up to date if we learn of any further changes, but can’t promise that it will always have the most current information.

  • We have not personally worked with all of these practitioners, so we can’t vouch for any individual on this list. Please do your due diligence before seeking care, as always!
